AURORA, Ill. (February 12, 2014) – Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, andOperation Homefront have teamed up to host an online auction benefitting the organization after last Saturday’s successful and memorable Military Appreciation Race from San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. Fans have the chance to bid on the race-worn gear of the sport’s biggest stars that celebrated our service men and women with special military designs.
A total of 10 riders contributed to the auction – James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, Ken Roczen, Ryan Dungey, Justin Barcia, Broc Tickle, Justin Brayton, Josh Hill, Chad Reed, and Jake Weimer. Interested bidders can log onto the official Ebay store hosting the auction – SupercrossMilitaryAppreciation – and peruse the various items that were donated.
Stewart’s special edition Seven jersey featuring digital camouflage on the sleeves was worn during the afternoon practice sessions in advance of the night program in San Diego and was autographed for the auction. The Yoshimura Suzuki rider went on to win the first ever Military Appreciation Race, ending a 15-race winless drought.
Villopoto’s red, white, and blue Thor gear featured military patches and icons. The auction set features a signed jersey along with pants, goggles, and gloves. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider finished second last Saturday night and continues to lead the championship standings.
Ken Roczen was one of a few riders to wear Fox Racing’s white camo gear. The brightly colored accents made it a fan favorite and an entire set is available at the auction featuring a signed jersey to go along with pants, a helmet, and pair of boots. The Red Bull KTM rider grabbed the final spot on the podium, coming in third in San Diego.
Dungey wore the same gear as his Red Bull KTM teammate en route to a fourth-place finish. Pants, a helmet, and a pair of boots also accompany his signed jersey.
Barcia’s unique Alpinestars gear featured various shades of green with red and yellow accents that helped it stand out. Both Barcia’s jersey and pants have been signed and are available at the auction. The Team Honda Muscle Milk rider finished sixth on Saturday.
Tickle wore the same white camo Fox Racing gear as his KTM counterparts for RCH Racing/Soaring Eagle Suzuki. His jersey and pant combo are available at the auction. Tickle finished eighth in San Diego.
Brayton’s O’Neal gray camo set stood out thanks to its tribute to Operation Homefront on the sleeves, front, and back. Brayton signed and donated both his jersey and pants to the auction as well as goggles. The Toyota/Yamaha/N-Fab/JGRMX rider finished ninth on Saturday.
Hill’s iconic green camo look from Shift proved to be a nice complement to the white camo worn by Fox riders. Hill’s jersey and pant combo is available at the auction. The RCH Racing/Soaring Eagle Suzuki rider posted an 11th-place finish in San Diego.
Although his night ended in heartbreak, Reed’s green camo Shift gear was hugely popular. The Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports rider donated his jersey and pants to the auction following a 12th-place finish.
Weimer unfortunately never got a chance to show off his Answer gear to the San Diego fans after an injury in practice, but the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider still donated a signed jersey to go along with pants and a brand new set of goggles.
Fans simply need to log onto the SupercrossMilitaryAppreciation Ebay store to start bidding. The auction is now live and can also be accessed via SupercrossOnline.com, the official website of Monster Energy Supercross. The auction will end on March 8, 2014.
