April 30, 2018 – Livingston, CA – The 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha Race Team rolled into beautiful Salt Lake City, attended a packed Team Appearance, had strong qualifying times and heat results but things didn’t go as expected when it counts; the 250 Main.
Team Riders, Kyle Chisholm and Hayden Mellross finished 9th and 16th, placing them 7th and 11th in the overall point standings with one round remaining.

Chisholm and the #11 Yamaha YZ250F lined up for Heat 1 and ran with the top togs for most of the race. He would cross the line in 4th place and secure a spot in the Main Event.  Fox Sports highlighted Chiz’ charge and focused on the #11 for a solid 1 minute, 32-second focus; great coverage for the team and our dedicated sponsors.  (Thanks, Fox!) Heat 2 saw the #63 of Mellross as he fought up front during the opening laps. Mellross ran consistent laps with times rivaling the leaders and crossed the finish in 5th place, both riders transferring directly to the Main.

Both 51FIFTY Energy Drink racers got off the line in the 250SX Main Event and diced it up with the lead pack for the first few laps around Rice-Eccles Stadium. Chisholm lead the 51FIFTY Energy Drink charge but came together with another rider and was forced off the track. He eventually remounted and minimized the damage as he rode to a 9th place finish. Mellross was coming through the pack but hit a rock in the main line on the finish line double and ended up stuck on a Tuff Block. He charged back to 16, but the results on paper won’t show the effort it took to get there.

Kyle Chisholm #11 – 9th Place – 7th Place Points
Hayden Mellross #63 – 16th Place – 11th Place Points

We’re really closing the season off on good notes,” Chisholm said after the race. “I feel like we were running up front all day and I had one of my best heats of the year finishing in 4th. I was putting in good laps in the main, but that one little mistake sent me off and I had to spin around on the start straight. I lost some time but I’m happy I landed another Top 10 and closed in on more points. One round to go and I’m excited to end it with some momentum moving into the summer.

I’ve been working really hard and feel like my results won’t show that tonight, but I felt awesome all day,” said Mellross. “Qualifying and Heats went really well and I posted some of my best times of the year which is a big plus for me. I think I brought the intensity tonight but disappointed with my Main, the way I approached the second set of whoops, but I’m ready to finish off the season on a positive note next weekend.
