Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up

Bel-Ray Racing-Weekend Racing Wrap-Up
The 2012 Monster Energy Supercross season began on Saturday night, January 7th in Anaheim, California. For the 2012 season, Bel-Ray is the lubricant of choice for TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing, Dodge Motorsports/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel- Ray Racing and Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki, as well as several privateers competing each weekend.
TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed started the 2012 season off with a bang, taking a convincing win in his first heat of the year. After a top 3 start in the main event Reed worked his way into second, and settled in, turning consistent lap times during the 20 lap main event. Reed held between a 7 and 10 second lead over third place. A small tip over in a corner near the end of the main event closed Reed's gap, allowing third place rider, Ryan Dungey, to challenge the position. Reed held off Dungey for a second place finish on the podium, and an excellent start for the 2012 season.
For 2012 the Dodge Motorsports/Hart & Huntington/Sycuan Casino/Bel-Ray Racing team expanded from 2 riders to 4, all with an excellent chance for Supercross success. Josh Hill and Josh Hansen were both in heat 1. Hill’s heat began with a rough start as he went down in the first turn after colliding with another rider. Meanwhile, Hansen turned in a consistent race finishing 7th, with a direct transfer to the main event.
Teammates Ivan Tedesco and Kyle Partridge competed in the 2nd heat. Tedesco got a good jump on the field, and entered the first turn near the front. Tedesco finished the heat in 5th place qualifying him for the main event. Partridge however suffered from a poor start and failed to secure a qualifying position.  As a result, both Hill and Partridge lined up for the Last Chance Qualifier, but Hill was in too much pain from his crash to continue. He retired for the evening and hopes to be fit for action on Saturday night in Phoenix, AZ. Partridge got a great start in the LCQ and held a lead for a few laps of the heat, before falling in a corner. Unable to recover from the fall Partridge failed to qualify for the main event.
The main event saw Tedesco make an early push for 3rd place. Unfortunately Tedesco's pace fell leaving him in 5th place before an unfortunate crash. Tedesco made every effort to recover lost time ultimately finishing in 11th place. Teammate Hansen got off to a poor start, but was able to rally up the field for an impressive 10th place finish.
Bel-Ray's newest addition, Team Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki, showed promising results in the first race of the season. Teammates Martin Davolos and Jason Anderson both raced in heat 2. Davalos raced an excellent heat, finishing in 1st! Anderson also managed to qualify with a 7th place finish in the heat. During the main event both riders suffered a poor start. Together they were able to make their way up to the top 10, before Davalos began to suffer bike problems forcing him to retire. Anderson was able keep his foothold and finished the race in 7th place.
All of Bel-Ray’s teams will be in action when the series continues this Saturday night in Phoenix,  Arizona.

2012 AMA Pro/Am Motocross schedule

Courtesy of AMA
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the 2012 AMA Pro/Am Motocross schedule. AMA Pro/Am Motocross provides the proving ground for amateur racers to earn the credentials they need to line up at an AMA Supercross or AMA Pro Racing Motocross event.

"AMA Pro/Am Motocross represents the pinnacle of amateur motocross competition," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "Racers at these events compete at premier tracks around the country for the points, purse money and contingency that will help them get to the next level -- AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Racing Motocross.

"This year's schedule is one of the best ever, with more than 40 events at some of the country's most challenging race tracks run by the sport's top promoters and organizers. This schedule is designed to test riders with top competition and national-caliber tracks and prepare them for the pro ranks."

Bromley added that the current AMA Pro/Am Motocross schedule is just the start for 2012 and that additional events will be added and announced throughout the course of the season.

The 2012 AMA Pro/Am Motocross season kicks off in Texas with the Texas Winter Series. It wraps up in Florida at the Winter Olympics.

AMA Director of Supercross Kevin Crowther added that the AMA Racing Pro/Am schedule and points process has contributed significantly to the skill and readiness of incoming AMA Supercross riders. He says that AMA Pro/AM Motocross competitors, who can also earn points toward their AMA Supercross license at AMA Arenacross events, are well prepared for professional competition.

"AMA Pro/Am Motocross provides the foundation of professional competition in this country and is integral to the natural progression of a rider through the amateur ranks all the way up to earning their AMA Supercross license," Crowther said. "I am pleased to see such a promising schedule for 2012. AMA Pro/Am Motocross gets stronger every year and continues to help prepare the fastest AMA Supercross racers on the planet."

AMA Pro/Am Motocross events are open to both professionally licensed and A-class amateur motocross racers. The events allow amateurs to gain experience on America's top tracks and prepare for the fast pace and long motos featured at the pro level.

To be considered for a professional motocross license, competitors must have earned at least 75 advancement points (at the time of application) in AMA Pro/Am Motocross events in a continuous 12-month period. Points are based off overall finishes in either the 250 Pro/Am and Open Pro/Am classes. Points from each class are not combined.

For more on AMA Pro/Am Motocross, see AmericanMotorcyclist.com > Racing > AMA Pro/Am Motocross.

Bel-Ray Extends Relationship with TwoTwo Motorsports

Courtesy of Bel-Ray
FARMINGDALE, NJ –– January 3, 2012 Bel-Ray Company, Inc.  – the leading USA-based lubrication manufacturing company is pleased to announce the extension of their partnership with Chad Reed and TwoTwo Motorsports for the 2012 and 2013 racing season.

The collaboration between Bel-Ray and TwoTwo Motorsports, now in its second year, began just prior to the 2011 racing season as the new, rider owned, team was being formed. For the 2012 racing season Reed will be competing in both the AMA Supercross and AMA Outdoor Motocross series aboard the #22 Honda.
Bel-Ray’s relationship with TwoTwo Motorsports has served as a proving ground for their products to be tested at the highest level of competition. The use of off the shelf consumer products in extreme racing conditions is a testament that Bel-Ray’s performance lubricants are the right choice for the discerning powersports user.

“Chad Reed sets the standard for racing and what it means to compete at the highest level.  His independent spirit, passion, commitment and determination to win championships makes TwoTwo a perfect partner for us.  We strive to be a leader in the lubricants industry and we are proud that champions like Chad win with our products,” said Jennifer Liquori, Bel-Ray’s Chief Operating Officer.

Bel-Ray’s multi year agreement with TwoTwo Motorsports shows their commitment to investing in the team and its long term success,  strategy echoed by team owner Chad Reed.
“There are several terrific additions to the TwoTwo Motorsports team and each one of them brings a lot to the program, but none more so than Bel-Ray who joins TwoTwo Motorsports for the second year,” said Chad Reed. “Bel-Ray is committed to developing our program; they see all of our hard work and effort we put out as a race team, and are there to support us every step of the way.  We could not ask for a better sponsor.  I am extremely excited for next year and the good things that are going to happen in 2012,” Reed added.

TwoTwo Lead Mechanic, Lars Lindstrom, can tell the difference a high performance lubricant can offer. Bel-Ray has given him the confidence he needs to prepare the race bike to compete at the highest level.

“Partnering with Bel Ray last year helped make it a great season. The Bel-Ray Friction Modified and Gear Saver Oils have produced more power and helped deliver the clutch feel and durability Chad demands. Their wide variety of products has made it easy to prepare the race bike to the highest level of quality. We’re very excited to work with Bel Ray again in 2012,” said  Lindstrom.

The team will be using the complete line of performance lubricants including the popular Friction Modified Thumper Racing Oil, Thumper Gear Saver Transmission Oil, Blue Tac Chain Lube and 6 in 1 Multi Purpose Lubricants during the 2012 season in all of their racing and test bikes.

Lake Forest, CA ( 3 Jan 12) - The Asterisk Mobile Medical Center (AMMC) announced today, that beginning with this year’s opening round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship at Angel Stadium, it will begin using neurocognitive testing software developed by ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) as part of its new concussion management protocol.

Testing will be voluntary for all riders this season and thanks to a donation from Shoei Safety Helmet Corporation, all baseline testing done during the Supercross season, as well as any necessary follow up tests, will be free of charge for all AMA licensed riders. "I began discussing the ImPACT Test with Dr. Bodnar several years ago after learning about the serious implications of Second Impact Syndrome. Unfortunately, head injuries have become front page news in many different sports, not just motorcycle racing. Shoei is proud to help support the Asterisk Mobile Medical Center in its efforts to help make professional motorcycle racing safer", said Bret Milan, Marketing Manager for Shoei Safety Helmet Corporation.

“The AMMC is very excited to be able to offer another tool to better identify and treat head injuries and concussions and through the support of Shoei, we will be able to make the testing available to all Supercross athletes. This fits in very nicely with our goal to continually provide the best medical care possible to the riders and staff of the Supercross Series, stated Dr. John Bodnar, Medical Director for the Asterisk Mobile Medical Center. The AMMC has reviewed the current research on concussions and put in place a multi-faceted protocol that puts the athletes’ safety first while still taking into consideration the unique variables that are found within the sport of Supercross and Motocross.

Athletes interested in taking the test or anyone having any questions can contact Eddie Casillas at 760-575-4878, or Paul R. Reiman, M.D., mxdoc951@gmail.com, phone 951-461-8684. There will be some time set aside January 5 and 6 (Thursday and Friday) at Anaheim Stadium for athletes wishing to take the test prior to Saturday’s event.
