Jake Canada Shows Speed at Anaheim Supercross 51FIFTY Energy Strong Debut

Livingston, CA (January 7, 2014) –  51FIFTY Energy entered the Supercross with a new rider in Jake Canada (#66), new team staff and created an immediate positive impression both on and off the track in the debut round for the 2014 season.
The 51FIFTY Energy Drink pits were buzzing as thousands of fans from the sold-out event visited the team pits throughout the day.  Fans experienced a meet and greet with Jake Canada during the autograph signing and received free samples and other give-aways. Fans also had the opportunity to enter to win a 2013 SX Honda CRF250R and trip for two to the Vegas SX.  They could also donate ‘Loose Change’ to the 51FIFTY Autism Money Car in support of their Race for Autism campaign.
When the gate dropped for the the first 250 Heat race of the season, Jake rocketed out on his CRF250R and came around the first turn in 2nd to the screams of his mechanic Drew Hopkins.  Riding, admittedly, tight in the first few laps, Jake relinquished a few positions to the factory-backed riders but gathered himself together, put in solid laps and with a top 5 finish transferred directly to the main.
With 45,000+ screaming fans eagerly awaiting the gate drop for the first Main Event in 2014, Jake and another rider came together in the first few feet.  Determined to move forward, Jake went wide in one of the high bowl berms and was pushed off the track, tipping over down the hill.  Spotting the field nearly 20 seconds, Canada showed the speed, promise, and endurance Team Manager Jeremy Coker expected when he signed the likable local Temecula rider.
“The adage still applies, ‘you can’t win a championship at Round 1, but you can certainly lose it,’ explained Jeremy Coker. “Jake showed everyone the heart and speed he possesses and charged from dead last, passing riders every lap to finish 12th. We’re proud of his effort and confident he’ll be up front all year.”
“I’m never happy with 12th place but my speed was there and I made solid passes in the main,” explained Jake Canada.  “Nobody wants to be in dead last after the first lap but I stayed focused and worked my way forward. The positive I take-away is that I have the speed and was as strong on the last lap as I was on the first.  Phoenix can’t come fast enough!”

Michael McDade Captures First AMSOIL Arenacross Victory of the Season Saturday in Worcester
Steve Roman Wins Arenacross Lites Main Event

WORCESTER, Mass. (January 4, 2014) – The second night of the 2014 AMSOIL Arenacross, featuring Ricky Carmichael’s Road to Supercross, from the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass., produced its second winner in as many nights with Motorsport.com/MJM Express/Spinchillers Racing Kawasaki’s Michael McDade capturing his first overall win of the season. Hillview Motorsports Suzuki’s Steve Roman grabbed the victory in the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class Main Event.

McDade put himself at the front of the field to start the first 15-lap Arenacross Class Main Event with Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Zach Ames and Brewer Cycles Kawasaki’s Jacob Hayes in tow. Reigning champion and opening night winner Tyler Bowers started inside the top five, but crashed on Lap 5 while pushing to the front of the field aboard his Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki. Out front, Ames made a pass for second and needed just one more lap to pass McDade for the lead on Lap 8. Ames held on for the win, with McDade in second and Massachusetts native Robby Marshall in third aboard his Motorsports Nation KTM. Bowers, who dropped to 13th after his fall, gained one position to finish 12th.

As the winner, Ames had the distinction of picking the inversion for the second Main Event, selecting 8.

Despite the inversion, McDade duplicated his holeshot effort to start the second Main Event, this time with his Motorsport.com/MJM Express/Spinchillers Racing KTM teammates Nathan Skaggs and Willy Browning chasing him. Both Bowers and Ames started deep in the field, but both began to move forward early. Ames made an impressive pass on multiple riders, including Bowers, and the teammates started a push to the front of the field. Bowers experienced more misfortune about halfway through the 15-lap race and would ultimately finish 14th. Out front, McDade held on for the win to secure the overall, while Browning finished second and Team Faith/FLY Racing KTM’s Kelly Smith in third.

McDade (2-1) was joined on the overall podium by Ames (1-5) and Browning (5-2).

In Head-to-Head Bracket Racing action, Bowers took the win to claim a pair of championship bonus points. That combined with his Main Event results landed the defending champion 14th overall. He falls from first to sixth in the Arenacross Class point standings.

Ames assumes control of the early points lead by virtue of his back-to-back runner-up efforts to start the season. His lead over McDade currently sits at just two points.

In the 18-lap Arenacross Lites Class Main Event, Frontier Lubricants KTM’s Daniel Blair assumed the early lead for the first six laps, ultimately giving way Yamaha rider Jacob Williamson to take over the top spot. While out front, Williamson lost traction and went down and gave way to Roman. Once out front, Roman never relinquished control and held on to take the victory. Traders Racing Kawasaki’s Tony Archer overcame misfortune of his own to finish second, with DirtBikeMike KTM’s Brandon Glenn in third.

Roman’s win moves him into the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class points lead, holding a tight two-point lead over Archer.

AMSOIL Arenacross continues next weekend with second round action from Baltimore and Baltimore Arena for two nights of action. Racing begins on Friday, January 10th, and continues on Saturday, January 11th. The on-track excitement commences at 7p.m. ET each night.

Rookie Roczen Wins Opening Race of Monster Energy Supercross in Anaheim
Last-Lap Pass Gives Anderson the Win 250SX Class Victory

ANAHEIM, Calif. (January 4, 2014) – In front of 45,050 fans inside a sold-out Angel Stadium, rookie Ken Roczen won the opening race of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, aboard his Red Bull KTM. In dramatic fashion, Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson captured the opening race of the Western Regional 250SX Class.

Three-time Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto came out swinging in the 450SX Class Main Event, piloting his Monster Energy Kawasaki to the Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot Award. On Villopoto’s back wheel through the first turn was Roczen, followed by Toyota’s/Yamaha/NFab/JGRMX’s Josh Grant.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart moved into third place on Lap 10, passing Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey. While leading on Lap 9, Villopoto crashed and handed the lead to Roczen, also allowing Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed and Dungey to move into second and third place, respectively. Villopoto remounted in fifth place.

On Lap 12, Stewart passed Reed for second place and chipped away at Roczen’s lead, ultimately closing in on his rear wheel. While attempting to get alongside Roczen in the whoops, Stewart suffered a race-ending crash. On Lap 16, Dungey secured second place as he passed Reed.

“This is insane,” said Roczen. “I got off to a good start and was holding on really tight. When there were four laps to go, I realized that I could win.”

Roczen was joined on the podium by Dungey, giving KTM a 1-2 sweep, and Reed. Villopoto recovered to finish fourth.

Anderson grabbed the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award and held down the lead in the 250SX Class Main Event until Lap 4 when Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil Honda’s Cole Seely moved into the lead. On the same lap, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson moved into the third spot.

Wilson and GEICO Honda’s Zach Osborne traded places near the halfway point of the race and the duel did not stop, lasting several subsequent laps. In the second-to-last turn on the last lap, Anderson passed Seely and rode to the second win of his career.

“The pass was [risky] on Cole (Seely),” said Anderson. “I didn’t want to be dirty but I had to put it in there, and I am glad it worked. I look forward to riding into Phoenix with the red number-one plate. This is only my second career win, so it is big for me.”

Anderson and Seely were joined Osborne on the podium, who eventually made his way past Wilson on Lap 12.

Monster Energy Supercross heads to Phoenix’s Chase Field next Saturday, January 11.

AURORA, Ill. (January 2, 2014) – Feld Motor Sports® and FOX Sports announced today the television broadcast team for the 2014 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season on FOX Sports.

Joining play-by-play announcer Ralph Sheheen in the booth will be 1997 450SX Class Champion Jeff Emig and pit reporter Jenny Taft. Additionally, a trio of former champions will share time as the color analyst.  Five-time 450SX Class Champion Ricky Carmichael, seven-time 450SX Class Champion Jeremy McGrath, and two-time 250SX Class Champion Kevin Windham will round out the booth in select races throughout the season as color commentators. The live broadcasts begin this Saturday, Jan. 4, from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., at 10:00 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.

Sheheen, who has been involved with motor sports for 25 years as a broadcaster and competitor, began providing play-by-play for Monster Energy Supercross in 2005. Emig joined the Monster Energy Supercross broadcast team in 2007. This marks the duo’s eighth season together bringing Monster Energy Supercross to millions of fans all over the world.

Carmichael, a 15-time AMA National Champion, returns to the Monster Energy Supercross broadcast team for his sixth season. For McGrath, the all-time winningest supercross racer with 72 Main Event wins who has made appearances as a color analyst in the past, 2014 will mark the first time he has been a consistent member of the team.

"I'm the luckiest Monster Energy Supercross fan on the planet,” Sheheen said. “Each week, I get to sit next to four of the greatest riders in the history of the sport and talk about the amazing racing we get to see. Obviously, the depth of knowledge with those guys is incredible. Dead air is never a problem in that booth … trying to give everybody time to talk is a bigger challenge. Also, when RC gets excited, which is often, he starts hitting me in the shoulder so keeping the bruising down can be tough."

Taft, the newest member of the lineup, is a graduate of Boston University and a native of Minnesota. She served as a social media contributor for FOX Sports North during Minnesota Twins, Timberwolves, and Wild programming. She also worked as an in-stadium and in-arena host for the Twins and Wild while getting television experience as a sideline reporter for the Minnesota Lynx WNBA telecasts. Most recently, she was added to the FOX Sports 1 news and highlights update team.

“As Monster Energy Supercross celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2014, it will enjoy its greatest television package to date,” said Ken Hudgens, COO, Feld Motor Sports. “Having live coverage from all 17 races is a milestone for Monster Energy Supercross, and having assembled such a diverse team of talent, our viewers are in for a real treat this season. I welcome our newest member, Jenny Taft, to the team; she will provide a fresh, unique perspective to the fans.”

In addition to the broadcast team that will bring the action to viewers all season long, longtime NASCAR on FOX reporter Krista Voda serves as the host of the season-opening telecast from Anaheim on January 4. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Voda has been a host for several of NASCAR on FOX programs since 2003, including Totally NASCAR, NASCAR Nation, NCWTS Setup and Trackside Live. She is also a familiar face to supercross, having served as a pit reporter in 2006..

For the first-time ever, the entire Monster Energy Supercross season airs live on FOX Sports. FOX Sports 1 airs 13 races live and FOX Sports 2 airs four races live, in addition to re-airs of every race on FOX Sports 2. The live Monster Energy Supercross programming on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 also includes live coverage on the authenticated FOX Sports Go app.

Gaerne Signs James Stewart

Courtesy of Gaerne

CORONA, CA - James Stewart has been a Nike athlete for many years now, and is proud to continue to be affiliated with the elite brand.  With Nike stepping away from the motocross boot market, Gaerne has quickly stepped in to work with Stewart and they have come to a multi-year agreement that will see him competing in the top of the line SG-12 mx-racing boot. As the relationship grows, Stewart and SEVEN will be working with Gaerne to design and offer special releases to the public as well collaborate to work on various projects.

James Stewart: “I’m really excited to be doing something new here.  Gaerne was genuine with their interest as soon as they heard I was free and that meant a lot to me.  But outside of that, riding in the SG-12 was the icing on the cake.  I tested every boot out there and I honestly liked the SG-12 the best.  I’m really excited that we have a relationship to build on going into the future.”

Bob Rathcamp: "Having an athlete like James on the starting line at A-1 wearing Gaerne boots is really exciting for our brand World-Wide. When we heard that Nike was terminating their Motocross Boot effort we jumped on the phone right away! James has been super cool and we look forward to working with him for years to come!"
