FULLERTON, CALIF. – On Friday, December 4th, Bob "Hurricane" Hannah was informed that Jason Lawrence wanted to be the first of the new breed of riders to join Hannah's Challenge of raising $100,000 towards Brad Lackey's effort in purchasing a new special needs van for the 1982 Motocross and Trophee des Nations Champion, Danny Chandler.

"I was reading Cycle News, saw the Challenge ad and let my management know I wanted to do this. Danny was one of the first riders to hang it out for the fans, and all of us today can appreciate what we have because guys like Magoo paved the way," said Jason Lawrence. "I'm going to be stoked to see Danny and his new van at the races next year," Lawrence added.

In addition to Jason's donation of $5,000, Bob Hannah was contacted by his friend Tom Reese of Springfield Armory who also pledged $5,000 for the Challenge. And at press time, Hi-Torque Publications (Publishers of Motocross Action, Dirt Bike, Dirt Wheels, and ATV Action magazines) committed another $5,000. This means (12) of the (20) spots have been filled totaling $60,000.

The original Challenge from Hannah was to have (20) individuals-retired or current pro riders, industry executives or individuals who have the means and can afford to donate an amount like this to accelerate "Bad Brad" Lackey's on-going efforts to get his friend Danny "Magoo" Chandler this new special needs van. An advertisement donated from Cycle News every week will list the Challenge and all the names that are on the list. Issue #49 coming out the week of December 7th will now include Lawrence's, Reese's and Hi-Torque names.

"It's great that Jason recognizes what Magoo has done for this sport and is stepping up in such a meaningful way," said Bob Hannah, 7-Time National Motocross and Supercross Champion. "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my friends Bruce Lockwood and Tom Reese for joining the Challenge. This is about helping a friend in need and is only for those who have the ability to donate in these tough economic times," Hannah added.

"To have a new-school rider like Jason Lawrence be the first to step up and help us with this project is really special," said Brad Lackey, America's First Motocross World Champion. "Man, Jason wasn't born until two years after Danny's accident, so it’s great that he see's Danny's contributions to the sport before and after his paralyzing accident in Paris. It's also very cool Roland Hinz and Hi-Torque has generously agreed to help too," Lackey added.
