MORGANTOWN, W.V.  - What began as a rookie-season introduction to the elite AMA Supercross class in January has concluded as one of the most historic championships the sport has ever seen. MX Sports Pro Racing would like to congratulate Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey on earning the premier-class 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.

Dungey captured six victories during the 17-race supercross season and, after a stellar season-long battle with three-time 250 Motocross Class Champion Ryan Villopoto, became just the second rookie ever to win the premier-class crown, joining the incomparable Jeremy McGrath in this exclusive club. The 20-year-old Minnesota native capped the season with a message to his competition, blitzing to a wire-to-wire victory this past Saturday in Las Vegas.

"It's just an honor to be in the same category as Jeremy McGrath," said Dungey, who is also the youngest premier-class champion in AMA Supercross history. "He was The King, and his achievement has been unmatched since 1993, which says a lot for how difficult it is to win at this level. I'm blessed to have such a good team and support behind me and still can't believe what we accomplished. It's a dream come true, and I can't wait to get outdoors and try and keep the momentum going."

Dungey now enters the 2010 motocross season as a title contender. With the support of his Rockstar/Makita Suzuki team manager Roger DeCoster, Dungey will take on defending 450 Class champion Chad Reed of Monster Energy Kawasaki, Honda Red Bull Racing's Andrew Short and Davi Millsaps, Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGR's Josh Grant and Justin Brayton, Jagermeister KTM's Mike Alessi, Rockstar/Canidae Suzuki's Tommy Hahn, Lucas Oil/Troy Lee Designs Honda rider Ben Townley, former AMA Motocross Champion Grant Langston, and the rest of the stars of the premier class in a quest to capture the world's most prestigious motocross title, the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Watch as Dungey makes his 450 Class debut on American soil in just two weeks at the Rockstar Energy Hangtown Classic from Rancho Cordova, Calif., on Saturday, May 22.
