Corona, CA – At the conclusion of an incredibly eventful race in St. Louis, MSR riders Kevin Windham and Nick Wey were able to land their MSR gear inside the top five of the Supercross class results. Windham was coming off a Monster Energy AMA Supercross season best second place, while Wey was looking to improve on his 11th place showing in Houston. Both riders put in a good heat race and transferred to the main event with fifth and seventh place gate picks.
Wey took the Spike Holeshot Award and led the pack for just under two laps in his MSR Rider Inspired “NYK” gear. Nick was eventually shuffled back a few positions, where he would find himself in a battle for the fourth spot with former Supercross champion Chad Reed. Wey put on an inspiring ride, withstood the pressure and never relinquishing the spot. This fourth place would mark Wey’s best Supercross finish this season.
Windham did not get the start that he was hoping for and completed the first lap of the main event in seventh position. It took Kevin a little while to get going in the early parts of the race, but by lap six he was on the move and inside the top five. Just passed the halfway point Villopoto went down and handed over second place to the charging Windham. K-Dub then made a late race charge at Dungey, closing the gap to just over two seconds with a few laps to go. Ultimately, lappers and minor mistakes forced him to settle in to the second position, for the second week in a row.
Throughout the day’s events, Windham was sporting the 2011 MSR NXT “Scan” gear. Look for a few more sneak peaks at the 2011 line as the Supercross series dwindles down. Pourcel East Coast SX Champion
Courtesy of Pro Circuit Racing
Corona, Calif. (April 11, 2010) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel locked up his second straight AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Region Championship at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Pourcel raced to his fifth win of the season and scored enough points to claim the No. 1 plate while his teammate Dean Wilson crashed on the last lap while trying to make a pass for second, finishing ninth.
Pourcel has two races remaining in his remarkable AMA Supercross Lites career. There is the East Coast finale next week in St. Louis and the Dave Coombs Memorial East-West Shootout in Las Vegas on May 8. In his SX Lites career, Pourcel has 12 wins in 19 starts.
“I normally don’t think about the championship at the races, I just want to put in a good race,” said Pourcel. “I am really happy that I was able to wrap it up early, but next week I still want to go out with a win.”
Pourcel set the fastest time in qualifying practice for the seventh straight week more than a half-second ahead of his nearest competitor. It was Wilson who was second, a tenth faster than third place. In the Heat races, Pourcel earned another win while Wilson overcame a tough start to finish second.
In the main event Pourcel led wire to wire after getting out of the starting gate in a good position. Wilson was fourth after the first lap but then made the move to a podium spot on the second lap. The Canadian rider kept pushing trying to move up to second throughout the race and on the final lap he went down in the whoops section. Wilson saw an opportunity to make the pass but a small mistake cost him a spot on the podium.
“I was so disappointed that I made that mistake,” said Wilson. “I know everyone makes mistakes, but that one hurt a little bit. I really wanted to be on the podium. Next week I want to finish with my best result.”
The AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Region season will wrap up next week at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Was this post helpful? Add yours to our service or subscribe to our feed above.

DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - Houston

Houston, TX - The AMA Supercross series went to the mid west over the weekend, visiting Houston, Texas’ Reliant Stadium. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha attended with high hopes for their lone East coast representative by the name of #577 Martin Davalos. The day started out fairly well for Yamaha backed rider, who put down an impressive lap time as 4th fastest in timed qualifying.
Slated into Heat #1, Davalos had been feeling confident all day and it showed when he reeled off a great start and settled into the 2nd spot. Immediately, Davalos started to apply pressure to the race leader with raw speed, and even nearly took the race lead for a brief moment. After filing back into the 2nd position following a few mistakes, Davalos regained his composure and had some luck on his side for sure. As mid way through the race the leader washed out his front wheel, and right there to capitalize was the #577 machine. Riding much more solidly as of late, Davalos rode on to a brilliant Heat race win.
When the gate dropped in the main event, this time Davalos was forced to sneak around the inside of the first turn in order to come out near the front of the field. Holding down 7th on lap one, Davalos wasted no time in getting out front and inside the top five. Racing with the lead group, Martin was once again establishing himself as a contender by holding his own and challenging for the 4th place position. Lap eight saw a minor setback after he missed his timing in a rhythm section, causing a slip of one spot to 6th. Not backing down one bit; he began to put his fitness to use and with only a handful of laps remaining until the checkers Davalos continued with lots of effort. Just for that he was graced with another touch of luck, when the third place rider took a soil sample on the final lap handing Davalos a stellar finish of 5th.
Star Racing thanks the following companies for their commitment.

Honda of Troy Race Report...Jacksonville
Courtesy of Honda of Troy
Honda of Troy once again raised the bar in Jacksonville, qualifying all 4 riders directly into the main from the heat races and The Troy Team owned 1/5 of the field in the lites main event. The Team invited veteran Kelly Smith to fill in for the injured Darryn Durham. Kelly was recovering from his own injury-a broken leg he obtained at the third round of the arenacross series nearly 9 weeks ago. So, with only 20 minutes of seat time, Kelly was willing to step-up and fill the shoes of Durham for the weekend. Also on the mend and not quite sure if he was going to be able to pull the trigger to race, was Levi Kilbarger. Last week he was on his way to securing the main event holeshot when he was devoured by the field in a first turn crash. Levi could barely complete the Jacksonville track walk due to a severe hematoma and deep thigh bruise but his "never say die" attitude led him to ride practice to see how he felt. With a lot of ice, massage, and heart he pushed on and would ride through the night and into the main.
Heat 1:
Fill-in rider Kelly Smith, Levi Kilbarger, and Sean Lipanovich all stormed out of the gate and put themselves in the top 4 spots at the end of lap one. #412 Kilbarger put together a solid ride to secure a 4th place finish and a 7th pick at the main event gate. #107 Kelly Smith shook off the rust and netted a 6th place heat finish . In one of the more exciting races of the night was Sean Lipanovich securing the final transfer spot.
Heat 2:
#92 Michael Willard was the lone HOT rider in heat 2. Michael had an inside gate pick and when they rounded the first corner he fought his way into 5th place. #92 battled his way to a 4th place heat finish and a 8th gate pick in the main. The team was on a high putting all 4 guys in the main, straight out of the heat races – thankfully no LCQ for the HOT Team.
Main:
The long 110 yard start allowed the Eleven 10 mods horsepower to shine. The team netted great starts all night long and the main was no different. Kelly Smith rocketed out of the gate from the outside and nabbed the $1000 holeshot prize. With Sean Lipanovich a very close second and Kilbarger and Willard back mid pack. The tight technical track took a toll on the team in the main claiming Willard first on lap 5. One of the long table top sections spit the #92 to the dirt and out of the race with a tender wrist and forearm. One straight away later the whoop section claimed Lipanovich-ejecting him off of his bike-but Sean regrouped and rejoined the race. That same whoop section would claim Kilbarger as well, he also was able to remount and continue the race. With his very limited time back on a bike Kelly Smith admitted that he paced himself a little too much because he was unsure how much he had in the tank. At the end of the night, the Troy Team finished with Kelly Smith 14th, Kilbarger 16th, Lipanovich 17th, and Willard 18th. Winning the Holeshot award allowed Kelly Smith an interview and chance to thank all of our Team Sponsors. As the weeks roll on each Honda of Troy rider brings a little more to the table. Everyone is looking forward to a weekend off to allow the guys to recover and gear up for Houston.
The Honda of Troy/Kilbarger Racing Team would like to acknowledge the sponsors who make this effort possible.
