Round 1 - AMA Pro Motocross Championship - May 19, 2018

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Just two weeks after the conclusion of the 2018 AMA Supercross Championship, Marvin Musquin and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team headed north to Sacramento, California for the opening round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Hangtown. Musquin delivered a solid pair of second-place finishes to put himself into a favorable position heading into the outdoor championship this summer.

Musquin qualified second in the 450MX class, giving him a great gate pick heading into the first moto. Musquin shot off the line to place his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION inside the top three early on where he battled with a hard-charging group of riders for the first three laps. Musquin charged his way into the lead on lap four and he dictated the pace for the next three laps. From there, Musquin continued to battle for the lead position before ultimately finishing second in Moto 1.

In Moto 2, Musquin had a good jump off the line but he got pinched off at the end of the start, which caused him to drop back to a top-ten position on the opening lap. Despite the early challenge, he quickly worked his way into the top-three by lap five and continued to climb his way into the lead battle, taking over the top position on lap eight. Musquin led for one lap before dropping to second, where he ultimately finished six seconds back for second overall.

Musquin:“The first round, to get a second-place is a good start. The second moto I got squeezed off the start, Eli and I were a little in the back, and I thought it was going to be a tough one but I was able to come back to the lead, which is awesome. I’m really happy about my riding today. It’s the first race with a new bike setup and we’re not too far off of being 100 percent, so I’m looking forward to next weekend and I’m glad I started the year off right, I would say. We’ll try to get better next weekend.”
