Rockwell Time Race Report: Freestone

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (June 8, 2010) The top Rockwell Time Team rider this past weekend at Freestone was the #20 of Broc Tickle. Broc fought the intense Texas heat and ended the day 4th overall in the Lites class with 8-2 moto scores. Fellow Rockwell riders Jake Weimer and Justin Barcia also cracked the top ten in the super competitive Lites class. Weimer followed up his impressive 5th place finish in the first moto with a 12th in the second moto, giving him 8th for the day. Barcia grabbed 10th overall with 10-8 moto scores. Going into Mt. Morris, Tickle, Weimer, and Barcia sit 5th, 7th, and 8th in series points, respectively. Jumping up to the 450 class, Rockwell rider Mike Alessi came back from a disappointing 12th in the first moto to leading the second moto. Unfortunately Mike would be regulated back to the 5th position by motos end and would walk away from Freestone with a 7th overall. Rockwell rider Davi Millsaps would also have a weekend he would rather forget as his 10-19 moto scores gave him 16th for the day. Watch for Millsaps and Alessi to bounce back at Mt. Morris and regain their positions at the front of the pack.

The picture perfect day at Hangtown was a suitable backdrop for the drama that unfolded at the opening round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.  The crafty Frenchman and the rest of the class were introduced to Geico Powersports Honda’s Eli Tomac, who put on a masterful performance in his professional debut to secure the overall.  We have been closely following Eli’s amateur career since the beginning and could not be happier for the entire Tomac family. 

Factory Red Bull Honda’s Davi Millsaps finished on the podium at the opener after putting in an inspired ride that reminded everyone that he’ll be battling all summer long.  After finishing third in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, Davi is looking to carry that momentum and consistency outdoors.

Davey Coombs was on hand in Sacramento and will help us break down the day with some good old fashioned bench racing.  We will also get the latest on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship series that resumes after the Memorial Day weekend break.

Motoendurance.net’s Robb Beams is well respected in our sport and continues to work with great riders like Ashley Fiolek, Ian Trettle, and Adam Cianciarulo.  Robb  will be on to discuss his exclusive 10-Week Performance Program specific for Ponca and the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at the legendary Loretta Lynn ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN.  We will also be taking questions from our chat room so make sure to tune in for some great training advice.

Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, Texas is the next stop for the boys of summer tour and Tony Miller will give us a behind-the-scenes tour of his facility as he prepares for a very busy month.  They will be having their North Texas Night Series race on Friday evening on a separate track, the AMA Lucas Oil National on Saturday, and an amateur day on Sunday on the big boy track. Honda finishes 2-3 in Supercross Championship

The Honda Red Riders took on the final round of the 2010 Supercross season in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, May 8, and Honda Red Bull Racing's Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short, and GEICO Powersports Honda's Kevin Windham gave it their all aboard their Honda CRF450Rs at the season-capping event. Windham successfully wrapped up second overall in the championship point standings and Millsaps clinched third overall.
From the moment the start gate dropped the Honda riders diced with one another, swapping spots early on after getting mid-pack starts. Windham methodically picked off riders one by one, including Millsaps and Short, en route to finishing in third place. Nearing the end of the race and while holding down fourth spot, Millsaps slowed up and dropped a few spots after suffering a clothing malfunction. Charging hard, Short was able to get by his teammate to nab fifth spot while Millsaps finished in sixth.
"The GEICO Powersports Honda team gave it their all tonight but I just wasn't able to get the start I needed to put myself up front at the start," said Windham. "All season long we've seen how important it is to get good starts and that's what I lacked. My riding was great but it wasn't enough to give me the winner's trophy for the third week in row. It's been a great season for the team and me, and I'm extremely happy to finish second overall in points."
Millsaps' third overall in the series is his career-best result in the Supercross class.
"It's been a rough season in terms of injuries for me so I'm really pumped to still end up third overall in the series points," said Millsaps. "I'm really happy I put Honda Red Bull Racing on the podium five times this season including getting the win in San Diego."
In the Supercross Lites East/West Shootout event, GEICO Powersports Honda's Trey Canard and Justin Barcia took on the best from both regions aboard their Honda CRF250Rs. Racing his first-ever shootout event, Barcia showed he had the speed to be out front when he nabbed the holeshot in his heat race. Unable to make a similar up-front start in the main, Barcia finished in fifth place. Teammate Trey Canard was among the front runners at the start but another rider made contact with him while he was in fourth spot and Canard went down, relegating him to 13th place. Riding a determined come-from-behind race, the young Honda racer gamely worked his way forward to finish in 10th place.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (May 3, 2010) Rockwell’s hometown race in Salt Lake this past weekend was a huge success. Even though the weather conditions were not ideal, Rockwell Time rider Jake Weimer wrapped up the 2010 West Coast Lites Championship. After winning the first Lites heat, Weimer charged into the main and finished fifth, giving him enough points to snatch the title. Fellow Rockwell Lites riders Broc Tickle and Cole Seely also put in solid rides at Rice-Eccles stadium. Broc finished the night with a 6th giving him 4th in the series points and Seely finished 11th giving him 7th in the series. Unfortunately, Rockwell rider Jason Potter suffered a pelvis injury during practice after casing the huge triple after the whoops and was not able to race. On a better note, Rockwell wants to recognize Landon Powell for making his first main of the season. Big props go out to Landon as he has been working his tail off the entire series.

As for the 450’s, Rockwell Time rider Davi Millsaps grabbed a heat win and finished second behind Windham in the main. With one race left to run, Millsaps sits 4th in overall points, just 13 points behind the injured Villopoto. Chris Blose battled the muddy conditions and raced his way to a 10th place finish and sits 13th in overall points. Rockwell Time riders Kyle Partridge and Gray Davenport finished 13th and 18th respectively.

Will Weimer take the East-West Shootout? Will Millsaps grab his second win of the season? We’ll find out as the series wraps up next weekend in Las Vegas. Until then, keep rockin’ Rockwell.

Honda Sweeps Salt Lake City SX

Torrance CA: The Honda Red Riders took on round 16 of the 2010 Supercross series in Salt Lake City, UT on Saturday, May 1, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short joined forces with GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham to sweep the Supercross podium. Facing grueling, sloppy racing conditions and battling the weather—including everything from rain to hail and even snow in the open stadium—the Honda trio captured the top three spots aboard their Honda CRF450Rs, with Windham claiming his second consecutive Supercross victory.
After winning their heat races, Millsaps and Windham were again fastest out of the start gate in the final and the pair diced for the lead early on. Pulling off a rock-solid block pass on Millsaps to move into the number one spot, Windham set about showcasing his skills in the mud, taking control out front. Just as he did last weekend, the 32-year-old Honda veteran led every lap in the main to claim back-to-back Supercross wins. So dominating was Windham’s victory that he lapped all but three riders in the process. Millsaps settled into the number-two spot for the remainder of the race and finished runner-up. Short put in a solid come-from-behind performance after rounding the opening lap in seventh to pull off his second consecutive third-place finish and complete Honda’s podium sweep.
"To see Honda up here in the top spot again is just great," said Windham. "The GEICO Powersports Honda team did an amazing job and it’s another great night for the team. The track was so rutted and slick, and the conditions were gnarly tonight. We were prepared for a mud race and knew it was going to be tough, but it became especially tough once it started to snow while we lined up on the start line. I’m very grateful to be in the number one spot for the second week in a row."


The final round of the Supercross Lites West competition saw GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard overcome a mid-pack start as he fought his way forward to finish in second place. Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Wil Hahn put in a gutsy performance to finish in third despite separating his shoulder earlier in the week. Hahn’s teammate Cole Seely struggled in the muddy, dismal conditions to finish in 11th place while GEICO Powersports Honda’s Blake Wharton was 12th. Hahn’s courageous effort resulted in his holding off Canard for the number-two spot in the Lites West championship standings, as Canard finished third overall in points.
"It’s been a tough Lites season for me, full of highs and lows," said Canard. "Last weekend’s 11th-place finish really hurt my position in the series points standings but I have to give it up to Wil (Hahn); he hung in there right until the end. The team did an amazing job, giving me a perfect race bike each and every week, and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support this year."

Honda Riders First and Third in Toronto

orrance CA: The Honda Red Riders took on round 10 of the 2010 Supercross series in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, March 13, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard made the trek across the border to battle the Supercross competition aboard their Honda CRF450Rs.

Canard successfully made it three podium finishes in a row in Toronto after grabbing the holeshot and racing to the lead on the opening lap. Challenged up front by Dungey and Villopoto in the early stages of the race, Canard found his rhythm to maintain third place from the sixth lap onward. Teammate Davi Millsaps was in sixth position on the opening lap and began picking off riders, but then he crashed out of the race on lap 15 while chasing his teammate Canard down for the podium spot. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham put in a solid performance after getting a mid-pack start to finish in fifth spot.

“I’m really happy with the way I raced in Toronto,” said Canard. “The past few weeks have been a real whirlwind; all the traveling, testing and getting used to the bigger bike. But I feel really good about the way things have gone and I’m proud of how I’ve raced. Having the opportunity to fill in for Andrew while he’s out injured couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I’ve been racing 250s for a while now, so having the opportunity to step up and not only test but also race the 450 is something I am very grateful for. The CRF450R has the speed and power to be up front and I know with more time on the bike I’d be able to stick with the leaders for longer and be in the hunt for the number one spot.”

In the Supercross Lites East competition, GEICO Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia claimed his first Supercross Lites victory in his debut professional season. The 17-year-old rookie was fastest out of the gate, grabbing the holeshot and building a solid lead out front. Overcoming a close call with a tuff block that had the potential to spoil his lead as well as an off-track excursion late in the race, Barcia held on to lead all 15 laps on his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF250R. Teammate Brett Metcalfe worked hard to make up ground after getting a mid-pack start and he finished in sixth place.

“My day didn’t start out that great in Toronto and I had a few issues to deal with in practice,” said Barcia. “But I talked with my team and got my head in the right place before heading into my heat race. I finished second in the heat and went into the main feeling really confident. I got the holeshot in the main and I knew that the race was mine to lose from there. I knew I had the speed to win—I have all season—I just needed to ride a smart race and keep a level head throughout. Winning my first-ever Supercross race is an awesome feeling. I’m so grateful to my family and the GEICO Powersports Honda team for getting me this far. It’s been a long time coming and I couldn’t have made it without them.”

Rockwell Time Daytona SX Report

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (March 8, 2010) After grabbing the holeshot in the first 450 heat race, Rockwell Time Rider Chris Blose battled the challenging Daytona track and transferred into the main via a 8th place finish. Fellow 450 Rockwell Rider Davi Millsaps faired a bit better in the first 450 heat and finished 6th. After 20 hard laps on the unforgiving rut filled track, Millsaps and Blose finished 5th and 17th, respectively. Davi is currently sitting 4th in the series, just 12 points behind Josh Hill while Chris is sitting 14th overall. Rockwell Rider Jake Moss transferred out of the second 250 heat race with a 7th place finish and finished 16th in the main. After three rounds, Moss sits 10th in the standings.
