Torrance, CA: The Honda Red Riders took on round eight of the 2010 AMA Motocross Championship at Washougal Motocross Park in Washougal, WA on Saturday, July 24, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Andrew Short and Kevin Windham impressed the crowd by running up front aboard their CRF450R race machines while GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard scored the trifecta in taking his third-straight overall 250-class victory aboard his CRF250R.

In moto one, Short pulled off the holeshot and led Honda’s charge through the first turn with teammate Kevin Windham and GEICO Powersports Honda’s Brett Metcalfe hot in tow. Short kept control out front until a series of small errors on lap five shifted the Honda racer into the number two spot where he remained until the race’s end. The start of the second moto mirrored the first with Short nabbing the holeshot—his eighth holeshot this season—and racing away to an early lead before surrendering a spot at the midway point. Short’s 2-2 results put him second overall for the round. Davi Millsaps’ replacement Windham was fast out of the start gate and was up front banging bars with the frontrunners early on in both motos until the veteran racer gave up a few spots to go 9-9 and end the round seventh overall.

"The Honda Red Bull Racing team really has my race bike dialed in for getting awesome starts," said Short. "The team did an amazing job and I had a lot of speed this weekend. I get great starts in almost every race and I’m quick to pull a good lead but I need to find that extra something within me to hang on out front until the very end. I absolutely love Washougal and this is one of those tracks that I really look forward to racing every year."

In other 450-class action, Metcalfe scored his third overall podium of the season by going 3-5 to finish the day third overall. Launching to a solid first-moto effort aboard his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF450R, Metcalfe later put in a heroic effort to rally back from 25th place in moto two to take the checkers in fifth spot, earning him a spot on the overall podium the hard way. Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Ben Townley was up front in the thick of the action in moto one when he crashed hard while negotiating the whoops. The CRF450R racer bruised his shoulder in the fall and was not able to participate in the second moto but is expected to be back racing at round nine in three weeks’ time.

In the 250 class, GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard absolutely dominated the competition, grabbing both holeshots on the day and leading every lap of racing to successfully clinch his third-straight overall victory. Aboard his CRF250R, the likeable Honda racer was unstoppable out front, setting a blistering pace and putting solid gaps between himself and his nearest competitors.

"I struggled at the start of the season to get everything figured out but things have really started to come together now," said Canard. "I’m in a really good place mentally, which I think has made all the difference, and my goal with four rounds to go is to stay out front and earn as many points as I can by winning motos."

Blake Wharton put in a solid performance aboard his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF250R going 5-4 to end the round fourth overall. Teammate Eli Tomac fared well going 7-9 to finish seventh overall while Justin Barcia finished in 16th position (32-10).

Honda Kicks-off MX Opener On Top

Torrance, CA: The 2010 AMA Motocross Championship and Women’s Motocross Championship kicked off at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova on Saturday May 22. Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps, Andrew Short and Ashley Fiolek showed great speed at the opening round of the season aboard their CRF450R and CRF250R machines. GEICO Powersports Honda newcomer, 17-year-old Eli Tomac, scored his first-ever AMA Motocross overall victory in his AMA professional debut.

In the 450 class, Millsaps got away to flying starts in both motos on his CRF450R and challenged for the lead. Finishing the first moto in third and going one better in moto two with a second place finish, the Red Bull athlete kicked his Motocross season off to a great start with a third overall. Teammate Short was on target for a good result in moto one when he crashed after being hit hard in a turn, finishing in 15th place. He rebounded to nab fifth spot in race two, rounding out the weekend in 10th overall. Brett Metcalfe put in a strong showing in his 450-class debut for the GEICO Powersports Honda team, going 5-4 to finish fourth overall. Another Honda racer making his return to racing after a long bout with injuries was Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Ben Townley. He too was among the top contenders, finishing 6-7 for sixth overall on his CRF450R.

In the 250 class, Eli Tomac made an epic professional debut on his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF250R, winning a moto and scoring the overall victory. In the opening race, Tomac had a strong lead when he made an error in the closing stages of the race and finished third. With his first-race jitters behind him, he engaged in a battle for the lead in the second moto with his more experienced teammate, Trey Canard, before going on to win and clinch the overall victory.

“I am beyond happy right now,” said Tomac. “I think I am actually in shock and not sure how to feel about winning. I didn’t expect this. The first moto was purely lost due to a rookie error but I made sure I didn’t make the same mistake in the second moto. I was feeling it by about the 20-minute mark, but I held on right to the end and I’m really happy right now. The GEICO Powersports Honda team has been so supportive and helpful, and I can’t thank them and my parents enough for getting me this far.”

After getting the holeshot and finishing moto one in seventh spot, Canard rallied hard to take second in moto two and end the weekend third overall. Justin Barcia charged hard with two solid come-from-behind races after getting mid-pack starts to go 5-7 for fifth overall on his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF250R. Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Wil Hahn was fastest out of the start gate, grabbing the holeshot in moto two, and finishing eighth overall (13-6).
In the Women’s Motocross Championship, two-time champion Ashley Fiolek finished second overall on her Honda Red Bull Racing CRF250R. Challenging for the lead in both motos, Fiolek finished moto one in third and moto two in second spot. Tarah Geiger went 2-6 in her debut ride for the Troy Lee Designs Honda team to finish third overall and Elizabeth Bash—sponsored by Trey Canard Racing on a Honda CRF250R—nabbed sixth overall.

Honda finishes 2-3 in Supercross Championship

The Honda Red Riders took on the final round of the 2010 Supercross season in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, May 8, and Honda Red Bull Racing's Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short, and GEICO Powersports Honda's Kevin Windham gave it their all aboard their Honda CRF450Rs at the season-capping event. Windham successfully wrapped up second overall in the championship point standings and Millsaps clinched third overall.
From the moment the start gate dropped the Honda riders diced with one another, swapping spots early on after getting mid-pack starts. Windham methodically picked off riders one by one, including Millsaps and Short, en route to finishing in third place. Nearing the end of the race and while holding down fourth spot, Millsaps slowed up and dropped a few spots after suffering a clothing malfunction. Charging hard, Short was able to get by his teammate to nab fifth spot while Millsaps finished in sixth.
"The GEICO Powersports Honda team gave it their all tonight but I just wasn't able to get the start I needed to put myself up front at the start," said Windham. "All season long we've seen how important it is to get good starts and that's what I lacked. My riding was great but it wasn't enough to give me the winner's trophy for the third week in row. It's been a great season for the team and me, and I'm extremely happy to finish second overall in points."
Millsaps' third overall in the series is his career-best result in the Supercross class.
"It's been a rough season in terms of injuries for me so I'm really pumped to still end up third overall in the series points," said Millsaps. "I'm really happy I put Honda Red Bull Racing on the podium five times this season including getting the win in San Diego."
In the Supercross Lites East/West Shootout event, GEICO Powersports Honda's Trey Canard and Justin Barcia took on the best from both regions aboard their Honda CRF250Rs. Racing his first-ever shootout event, Barcia showed he had the speed to be out front when he nabbed the holeshot in his heat race. Unable to make a similar up-front start in the main, Barcia finished in fifth place. Teammate Trey Canard was among the front runners at the start but another rider made contact with him while he was in fourth spot and Canard went down, relegating him to 13th place. Riding a determined come-from-behind race, the young Honda racer gamely worked his way forward to finish in 10th place.

Reed, Dungey and Pourcel Lead the Way into New York to Celebrate 40 Years at Unadilla Retro Motocross National

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (August 11, 2009) - In arguably the most competitive season ever, the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship heats up this Saturday for round nine with the Unadilla Retro Motocross National in New Berlin, N.Y. This year's event will feature a very special retro theme and all attending fans are encouraged to wear some retro clothing from their favorite motocross era. The retro theme is a celebration of 40 years of motocross at Unadilla Valley Sports Center.

Known to American Motocross fans as a staple in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship schedule, Unadilla is one of the longest running motocross circuits in the United States. The legendary facility has played host to a number of epic events and has been a fixture of the AMA since 1972. Additionally, Unadilla is a favorite among the series' competitors thanks to its "old school" layout and characteristics in which obstacles within the natural terrain provide all the hang time and difficulty necessary for a standout motocross circuit. With sections of the circuit boasting names like Gravity Cavity, it is clear why Unadilla is a favorite amongst riders and fans alike.

SPEED will broadcast the 450 Class with same-day coverage on Saturday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. EST. The ultra-competitive 250 Class will also air on SPEED on Tuesday, July 18. Check your local listings.

This year's race kicks off with an amateur program and the Friday afternoon Monster Energy Fan Fest, which begins at 4:00 p.m. Fan Fest will feature current and former Unadilla racing legends, including the GEICO Powersports Honda team and the Jagermeister KTM teams. Following Fan Fest, a special outdoor screening of the Motocross Files will be presented, courtesy of the noted producer Todd Huffman. Viewing will take place in the amateur pit area.

With a two-week break from the action, the stars of the world's most prestigious motocross championship can't wait to get back on track and continue the fight for the title during the series' final four races. Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Chad Reed leads the way in the series standings for the 450 Class while his teammate Ryan Dungey and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Christophe Pourcel sit deadlocked atop the 250 Class.

Since taking over the points lead at the fourth round of the championship at High Point, Reed has been a man on a mission, claiming his third victory of 2009 and extending his healthy points lead at the previous round. The Australian rider went 1-1 on the day at Washougal and looks to be in great shape for his first motocross championship. However, with the way things have gone in 2009 anything is possible as the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship lost its third title contender this season when JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha's Josh Grant went down with injuries suffered at the X Games. The current second place rider in the standings will sit out the remainder of the year, giving way to Honda Red Bull Racing's Andrew Short in third, who sits 70 points out of the lead and hopes to capture his first career premier class victory.

GEICO Powersports Honda's Kevin Windham, who has become a supercross-only rider the past few seasons, will make his 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship debut this weekend. Windham, a longtime fan favorite, has finished runner-up in the 450 Class four times during his career and will become another challenger to Reed for the overall win this weekend.

One year after claiming his first-ever 250 Class victory at Washougal MX Park, Dungey returned to the Pacific Northwest to claim his second straight win at the facility, finishing 1-5 on the day and creating a tie atop the 250 Class standings with Pourcel. By virtue of his four overall victories compared to Pourcel's two, Dungey holds the slight advantage when it comes to tie-breakers. The duo has been the class of the field for most of the season, but rookie upstart Justin Barcia has turned countless heads thanks to his stellar speed and all-out style. Growing up just a few hours away in Monroe, the GEICO Powersports Honda rider returns to his home state for the first time as a professional in search of his first career overall podium.

Last year at Unadilla in muddy conditions thanks to a mid-race thunderstorm, James Stewart held on to sweep both 450 Class motos and keep his undefeated streak alive en route to his first-ever premier class championship and the series' third perfect season. In the 250 Class, Ryan Villopoto capped off a solid weekend, posting a dominant 1-1 performance on the way to his third consecutive title.

Monster Energy National in Mt. Morris Becomes Wide Open Race with Injury to Points Leader Alessi

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (June 9, 2009) - Beginning in the mid 1970s, High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pa. has been a mainstay on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship circuit. With a course layout inspired by the late Dave Coombs Sr, the June 13th Monster Energy National Presented by Centra Bank will serve as host to a new beginning in Motocross, as the first-ever live network television broadcast will take place.

NBC Sports will present Saturday's Monster Energy National live, beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET. Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki's Ryan Dungey will head a strong 250 Class lineup while WMX Class leader Ashley Fiolek will lead the way for a historic day of racing in Southern Pennsylvania. Current 450 Class points leader Mike Alessi will miss High Point and the following rounds for the foreseeable future.

After a dominating performance last weekend in Texas in which Alessi asserted himself as the man to beat for the series title, the Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki rider suffered a broken kneecap yesterday in preparation for Saturday's race. He underwent successful surgery this morning and the current prognosis for a return is positive as Alessi could make it back to the track before the end of the season.

Alessi's injury is the latest twist in what has already been an interesting 2009 season. Just two weeks earlier, Glen Helen winner and then-points leader Ryan Villopoto suffered a knee injury of his own and was forced to sit out the remainder of the season. Now, this weekend's race and the chase for the championship is wide open with Alessi's teammate Chad Reed asserting himself out front thanks to his current second place standing.

Reed, a former two-time AMA Supercross class champion, picked up his second consecutive podium finish of the season last Saturday and will see his 31 point deficit to Alessi erased this weekend. He continues to inch closer to his first career outdoor motocross victory, but Honda Red Bull Racing's Andrew Short, who made his first appearance on the overall podium for 2009 in Texas, and JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha's Josh Grant, who captured a second moto victory over Alessi at Hangtown, are right with Reed and will make this a memorable title fight through the remaining nine rounds.

The hotly-contested 250 Class didn't disappoint in Texas either. Dungey scored his second overall of the year thanks to his third straight moto two victory. The Minnesota native was runner-up in the first moto, and took advantage of a bad start by rival Christophe Pourcel to extend his points lead.

"It is my third year and I'm still at the beginning of my career the way I look at it," stated Dungey on the second win of the season. "I feel like I belong here and thinking like I feel that I need to step up. There aren't any excuses and I can't expect anything less."

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Pourcel trails Dungey by six points in the standings, but also raced to his third consecutive first moto win last weekend en route to second overall. Saturday will mark the Frenchman's first visit to High Point. With GEICO Powersports Honda's Trey Canard coming into picture as well, he will need to be at the top of his game.

Last season, Dungey was the only member of the trio to compete in Mt. Morris, bringing home third overall.

In the WMX Class, Honda Red Bull Racing's Fiolek stayed perfect through three rounds in 2009, sweeping the day's motos. Rival Jessica Patterson found misfortune in the day's final moto as Sherri Cruse and Vicki Golden rose to the occasion to complete the podium.

With 2009 being the inaugural visit to High Point for the women, Saturday's race will surely be anyone's for the taking.

Always known for being one of the most unique tracks on the circuit, High Point will present a new set of challenges for all the competitors on Saturday. The race will also kick-off the first round of the three-race Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross, a prestigious run for the money within the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

Fans looking for a sneak preview of the Monster Energy National can join the festivities of Fan Fest on Friday, June 12 beginning at 4 p.m. at the track. Team Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki will be on hand to meet and great with the fans, as well as the G.O.A.T, Ricky Carmichael. In addition, fans can also watch the minibike racing and enjoy a free concert, courtesy of Ten Man Push, the official band of Motocross.
