Travis Flowers Named Husky Dealer Relations Manager

November 17, 2009 - Woodcliff Lake, NJ - Husqvarna Motorcycles NA is proud to announce the addition of Travis Flowers as Dealer Relations Mgr. His primary responsibility will be to assist Husqvarna's growing dealer network with all aspects of dealer support functions including sales, after sales and service. The increase in staff is in response to the huge growth in motorcycle sales and a rejuvenated dealer network due to Husqvarna's resurgence in the U.S. as member of the BMW Group.

Mark Brady, president of Husqvarna Motorcycles North America, commented on Travis' recent addition. "Travis has already proven to be a great addition to our team. His passion for off road motorcycling coupled with his education and experience are important assets that will help us enormously in our efforts to improve our communication with dealers. More importantly since Travis will be traveling a great deal in this role, he will be than just a voice on a phone, he will also be the face of our company to many dealers across the country. Prior to joining Husqvarna Travis had been working for one of the nation's premier power tools manufacturer in a similar capacity. Renthal Support on Location at Loretta’s

ENGINE:

• The valve spring retainers are now lightweight aluminum instead of steel, and valve spring pressure is lighter for reduced valve-opening force. This contributes to superior low-to-mid range torque characteristics due to less power-robbing friction. There’s also a new, higher lift cam profile, while valve stem ends are chromium-nitride coated for exceptional reliability and reduced maintenance.

• The exhaust port shape has a “D” shape instead of round. This increases velocity through the port for excellent throttle response, while enhancing the power feeling of the engine.

• The newly designed radiator is lower and further back and the oil tank is more compact and repositioned to achieve greater mass centralization.

• The carburetor bore has a new venturi shape, plus there’s recalibrated jetting and a new accelerator pump. This translates to impressive response when the rider snaps open the throttle, and contributes to superb torquey low-to-midrange power characteristics.

• The intake boot offers a straight, smooth tract for excellent engine breathing and more power. The airbox is reshaped to tuck neatly into the Bilateral Beam frame.

• The exhaust pipe has been carefully tuned to optimize engine power, with a muffler that’s 50mm longer and with a narrower core – a design that lets the YZ250F comfortably meet the latest noise standards without sacrificing power.

• Engineers were able to increase the clutch spring load for stronger engagement, yet, thanks to a recalibrated clutch actuation arm cam ratio, lever pull is actually lighter than before.

• Third and fourth gear ratios are slightly taller, and third, fourth, and fifth gears are stronger than ever with new drive dog shapes for positive engagement. That gives riders a strong gearbox that’s been carefully matched to engine power characteristics.

CHASSIS/SUSPENSION:

• The Bilateral Beam frame is crafted from a carefully chosen combination of forged and extruded aluminum pieces – 20 in all – all welded together to provide unmatched rigidity balance.

• The KYB speed-sensitive front fork delivers exceptional damping feel, responsiveness, and bump absorption characteristics. Damping settings are revised, the piston rods have a new surface treatment, and the oil seal is a new design.

• The 4-way-adjustable KYB rear shock has been redesigned to make the most of the Bilateral Beam frame design. It’s lower in the frame for excellent mass centralization, and has new damping characteristics.

• The new tank, seat, and rear fender are flat and the relationship between handlebars, pegs, and seat result in a natural, more forward riding position that facilitates rider movement. The fuel tank has been moved toward the center of the bike for mass centralization. The ProTaper bars are four-way adjustable, and handlebar mounts and footpegs are 5mm higher to optimize rider position on the new chassis.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES:

• The CDI unit has revised ignition mapping to match new engine

Ashley Fiolek Attends IWMC Opening Ceremony

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce that motocross racing phenom Ashley Fiolek will speak at the Aug. 19 Opening Ceremony of the fifth AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference, presented by Harley Davidson and Buell, in Keystone, Colo.

The fact that Fiolek is deaf has never hampered her performance on the motocross track. She quickly demonstrated that she is a serious competitor in the professional ranks when she rode her way to the title in the 2008 AMA/WMA Women's Professional Motocross Championship. This year has proved to be no different. After the first four races of the 2009 series, Fiolek -- competing as the first-ever woman member of the Honda Red Bull factory racing team -- currently holds first place in the point standings. But she is not content to stop there. Fiolek intends to compete on the men's motocross circuit in the not-too-distant future.

What makes the 18-year-old even more likable is her genuine passion for sharing her enthusiasm about women in the motorcycling.

Ashely Fiolek is one of the biggest names on two wheels and continues to dominate AMA's Women's Motocross Championship.

"I am really looking forward to attending this year's AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference in Colorado," she said. "I have been riding and racing since I was 7, and I think the advances in motorcycling sports that women have made are fantastic. I can't wait to meet other enthusiasts who share my love for being outdoors and riding."

"Ashley's accomplishments as a woman motorcyclist are as impressive as they are inspiring," says Tigra Tsujikawa, marketing and special events manager for the AMA. "I can think of no one more fitting to kick off our conference, and we are both honored and delighted that she will be joining us."
