Honda Offers Up $46,750 in Contingency for Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series

Morgantown, W.Va. (January 18, 2010) - Longtime Can-Am GNCC supporter Honda returns for the 2010 tour with $46,750 in Contingency payout. Honda supports the top 5 finishers in several amateur and Pro bike classes for five events.
"We are very proud of our 2010 Contingency program," said Keith Dowdle, Assistant Manager of Honda Riders Club of America. "Our contingency program pays for 2008 and newer models. This economy is tough, and some may not be able to buy a new bike, even though we'd like you to. So if you're riding red, we'll support you."

Yamaha posts $52,250 in 2010 Can-Am GNCC Contingency Payout

Morgantown, W.Va. (January 19, 2010) - Long-time Can-Am Grand National Cross Country series supporter Yamaha has returned for the 2010 tour with $52,250 in Contingency payout. Yamaha supports the top 3 finishers in the youth and amateur classes all the way up to the pro ranks for 10 events.
"Yamaha is proud to announce our continued support of the GNCC series in 2010 by offering Yamaha motorcycle riders from the 85cc Youth to the Super Senior classes access to our 2010 Contingency program," said Donnie Luce, Yamaha's ATV and Off-Road Coordinator. Our program was designed to reward qualified riders for their efforts while competing in one of toughest series in Off-Road Racing as well as helping them build a strong relationship with their local Yamaha Dealers."
Yamaha awards the XC1 1^st place rider $400, followed by $300 for second and $200 for first.  In the XC2 Pro-Lites class, Yamaha awards 1^st place with $250 followed by $200 for second and $150 for third.

AMA Racing Amateur Motocross Competitors Rider Classifications for 2010 Season

AMA Racing, the pro-am and amateur competition arm of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), has announced that amateur competitor classifications for motocross have been established for the upcoming 2010 season. Amateur competitors have been advanced from C to B classification and from B to A classification based on the rider advancement procedures outlined in the 2009 AMA Racing Rulebook.

Rider advancement procedures for motocross are spelled out in Chapter 1, Section 1.1 of the 2009 AMA Racing Rulebook Governing Pro-Am, Standard, ATV and Youth Competition. Riders are advanced based on the National Advancement System, according to their Rider Performance Value (RPV). GNCC Racing Television Returns with New Time Slot
2010 Season Begins April 25

Morgantown, W.Va. (December 29, 2009) - For the tenth straight year, the highly popular Racer TV program will return with ATV and bike coverage for the 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series.  All 13 GNCC bike and ATV rounds, 26 races in total, will air on VERSUS in 30-minute episodes, totaling 52 hours of GNCC action.  Each race will debut on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. EST and will re-air on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. EST.  The first episode will feature The Parts Unlimited River Ranch ATV Premiere on April 25. The GNCC Series continues to be America's only off-road series offering bike and ATV racing coverage on cable television.
"I'm really excited that our shows will be airing in a new time slot," said RacerTV Producer Jason Hooper. "Our goal with RacerTV is to showcase the best off-road racers in the world to as many people as possible, and our later time slots will allow more people the opportunity to tune in."
Along with Hooper, returning to the Racer TV production crew is Mike Holbert, a former GNCC pro-class racer on bikes and ATVs. Holbert has been a part of the GNCC TV team since the shows began airing in 2001. Brian Risch, who has worked for Gear Media's TV Crew covering the AMA ATV Motocross Championship, is new to the crew this year.
This year's shows will focus on the battle for the GNCC XC1 and XC2 pro class titles. On ATVs, Defending GNCC Champion Chris Borich will return to take on a deep field of tough competition like Taylor Kiser, Adam McGill, Bill Ballance and Bryan Cook. On the bike side, Defending GNCC Champion Paul Whibley will battle with Josh Strang and Charlie Mullins to attempt to take his second title in a row.
The 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series kicks off on February 27- March 2 as part of Bike Week at the Westgate River Ranch Resort in River Ranch, Florida, with ATV's racing on Sunday, February 28, and bikes racing on Tuesday, March 2.

FMF Indoor Motocross Winter Series Opens This Week in North Carolina

Riders throughout the southeast will continue a tradition this weekend (Nov 27-28) as they pack up the leftover turkey and head out to the opening event of the 2009-2010 FMF Indoor MX Winter Series. The WNC Ag Center in Fletcher (Asheville), NC is host to this weekend’s event, which will feature 34 classes of riders on bikes and ATVs.

Since 1992 this AMA sanctioned event has featured bar-to-bar racing between some of the nations up and coming pros as well as fast amateur riders. The event is arenacross racing in tight quarters, which makes for a super exciting show. Four year old pee-wees on the tiny bikes to the pros it will an action packed event. Last year there were 39 pro riders in each class, which qualified down to the best 15 for the main event. The spectators got their money’s worth as Zach Osborne, Tyler Bright, Robbie Horton, Jim Chester, Joshua Thomas, and Jim Neese battled for the win. Osborne took the win, but it was Horton who hung tough and won the series championship.

It will be two full days of racing with a full program each day. Practice is at 12:00 noon and the main events are at 7:00pm both days.

Starting November 15, with each 2008-2009 KTM SX model purchase the proud new owner will not only receive a great KTM "Ready to Race" motorcycle but one FREE day riding school with 2X Motocross World Champion Sebastien Tortelli.
The idea behind the offer is to give riders of all levels an experience they will never forget by teaching them the tools to become a better overall rider through an instructional course from a past champion and well decorated racer. "KTM has been a sponsor of Champ Factory Motocross Schools for the past two years by providing bikes for the program instructors. This year we wanted to go even further and offer these schools to customers within the local area as a bonus to their new bike purchase," commented KTM Sales Manager Revelle Harrison.
The program will roll out in California and Arizona first and will add additional states as the program grows. "We are excited about this opportunity, but would like to start slow to ensure that the customers who attend have the best service and opportunities available. We plan to extend a riding school offer to all states after the initial launch period," remarked Harrison.

Congressional Motorcycle & OHV Issues

Congress is in recess this month and many of your elected officials will be working in their home state offices. This is a great opportunity to meet them and discuss issues important to you. Some current topics to discuss with your elected officials are access to public lands, the future of youth motorcycles and ATVs, health care and the transportation bill.

If you are interested in meeting your Member of Congress you can call their home office closest to you and request the time, date and location of their next public meeting or to schedule a meeting of your own. If you are able to attend a public meeting with your Member of Congress and would like some ideas on current issues affecting the riding community, we have included some suggested talking points below.

1) The AMA supports active management of off-highway vehicle (OHV) areas. Additionally, the AMA supports responsible recreational access to public lands for the use of OHVs, including off-highway motorcycles, dual-sport motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).

2) The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted to stay enforcement of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) that currently bans the sale of youth-model motorcycles and ATVs. The stay, which extends through May 1, 2011, follows a unanimous vote by the Acting Chairman Nancy Nord and Commissioner Thomas Moore.

• This does not solve the real issue, which is the law itself. Despite the stay, it is unclear whether state attorneys general will also decline to enforce the CPSIA. To contact your state attorneys general to voice your opinion, please click here.
• In order to assure continued availability and access to youth OHVs, the CPSIA must be amended to exclude youth-model OHVs from the lead content standard. The AMA is supporting H.R. 1587, which will exempt youth-model OHVs from the CPSIA.

3) When Congress begins to deliberate the many health care plans under consideration after the August recess, the AMA encourages our elected officials to keep motorcyclists and everyone else who enjoys an active lifestyle in mind. Since our members cherish personal freedom and responsibility, ask your elected official for assurances that the health care plan considered by Congress will guarantee the freedoms of millions of motorcyclists and that it will not be adversely impacted with mandates from Washington.

4) With Congress currently considering the reauthorization of the Surface Transportation legislation, the AMA is asking that our elected officials recognize the benefits of supporting motorcycles in the on-road transportation mix and off-road trail systems.

Promote the fact that motorcycles are positive for our communities because they:

• Reduce traffic and parking congestion
• Increase fuel economy
• Reduce impacts on our roads and bridges compared with automobiles and light duty trucks
