AURORA, Ill. – The 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, makes its first visit to the great state of Texas this weekend and a return to historic Dallas and the inaugural visit to the brand new, state-of-the-art Cowboys Stadium located in Arlington.

Monster Energy Supercross’ last visit to Dallas was in 2008 and if history is any indication, Saturday night will surely be memorable in what has already been an incredible season. Cowboys Stadium is the newest and largest venue on the supercross schedule and serves as the perfect location to showcase the series in the midst of a heated championship battle.

The weekend was bittersweet for the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki team as both of its full-time riders scored runner-up finishes in the AMA Supercross and AMA Supercross Lites classes, respectively. While their efforts were strong, both premier class championship leader Ryan Dungey and current Eastern Regional Championship second place holder Austin Stroupe wanted to win in front of the Toronto fans.

"I always want to get the win,” said Dungey. “But we have a great team and will just keep working hard and trying to improve. We are going to be strong in Texas and hope to get back on the top spot (this weekend).”

“I’m really disappointed that I didn’t get the win in Toronto,” said Stroupe. “But I rode well and it was nice to close in on the points lead. I’m still looking for wins though, not seconds.”

Dungey’s three wins still have him with a strong advantage heading into this weekend’s race and he will be looking to bring Ryan Villopoto’s momentum to a halt to regain control of the championship. For Stroupe, his runner-up streak now sits at four races and he sits just seven points out of the lead. If he continues to ride as consistently as he has been, it will only be a matter of time before he stands atop the podium.

Fresh off his fifth win of the season last weekend in Toronto for Monster Energy Kawasaki, Villopoto continues to win in the AMA Supercross class as he looks to claim his first premier class title. Last week, Villopoto led 19 of the 20 laps in the main event to close within 17 points of Dungey.

“I just need to keep winning,” said Villopoto. “If I can stay on top of the box, I can win the championship. With every win I gain at least three points, but if someone makes a mistake it could be more. I don’t know what to expect at Dallas, it is a new stadium and all I know is there is a big screen there.”

In the AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Regional Championship, current points leader Christophe Pourcel was forced to watch his winning-streak snapped last weekend. However, the Frenchman still has a strong grasp on the points lead and is halfway to claiming his second straight Eastern Regional title.

“It is going to be a long fight,” said Pourcel. “It was a tough weekend in Toronto, but I still finished third and I still have the points lead. I’m just going to keep working hard and try to get back on top.”

For rookie Dean Wilson, the trip to Toronto was bittersweet as he finished just one spot off of the podium in his adopted country. After week of media opportunities, the 18-year-old really wanted to be on the box.

“Finishing fourth isn’t bad,” said Wilson. “But I know I can do better. Canada is a great place and the fans were behind me all night. It was a great experience and hopefully I can win there someday.”

Despite rumors of his return, Chad Reed will once again miss the action this weekend as he continues to recover from his early-season injury. AMA Supercross Lites rider Tyla Rattray will also sit out as a result of injury.

Over at the Honda Red Bull Racing stable, Trey Canard continued to demonstrate his depth of talent since stepping up mid-season to fill in for injured Andrew Short aboard the CRF450R. Canard has racked up three consecutive podium finishes in just four outings and last weekend in Toronto added a Supercross-class holeshot win to his growing list of accomplishments.

“The past few weeks have been a real whirlwind; all the traveling, testing and getting used to the bigger bike,” said Canard. “But I feel really good about the way things have gone and I’m proud of how I’ve raced. This weekend’s race in Texas should be a lot of fun, especially getting to race in the new Cowboys Stadium for the first time. I’ve seen pictures of the new stadium and it looks awesome so I’m really looking forward to racing there.”

Teammate Davi Millsaps crashed out in Toronto while chasing Canard down for the third spot. Aboard his CRF450R, Millsaps rallied hard and made up a lot of ground after getting a mid-pack start and was well in the hunt for the podium spot when he crashed. While sore, he is still eager to compete this weekend.

“No one wants to crash out of a race but if you do, then you want to do it knowing you were laying everything on the line and going for it—that’s what I did,” said Millsaps. “I know I am fast on the track but I haven’t been getting good starts, which means I have to come from a long way back, increasing my chances of something going wrong. We are just past the halfway point in the series and I’m fourth in the championship points. With seven rounds to go I’m still well in the running to be on the championship podium.”

GEICO Powersports Honda’s veteran racer Kevin Windham continues to prove that age is no barrier when it comes to mixing it up with much younger competitors in the AMA Supercross class. While his speed may not be where it once was, his vast amount of experience gives him a leg up on the competition and has allowed him to be in the thick of the podium fight each week.

“I like that I’m still seen as being a threat in the supercross class at 32 years of age,” said Windham. “I’ve finished on three podiums this year, scored a few top-five finishes that I’m really happy about but I’m definitely hungry to get a win under my belt this year. I’ve been riding the Honda CRF450R for many years now and I believe that’s a real advantage. We’ve hardly changed anything going from race to race this year, which is a real testament to the machine and the GEICO Powersports Honda team.”

GEICO Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia had the most memorable weekend of his young career last weekend in Toronto, claiming his first AMA Supercross Lites victory in his rookie season after grabbing the holeshot and leading all 15 laps of the main event.

“When I got the holeshot in the main I knew that the race was mine to lose,” said Barcia. “I knew I had the speed to win—I have all season—I just needed to ride a smart race and keep a level head throughout, and that’s what I did. Winning my first pro race is something I will never forget but I can’t spend too much time reveling in it. I now need to turn my focus towards this week’s race in Texas and make sure I give myself that same great start in the main.”

AMA AX Notebook: Dayton

AURORA, Ill. – As the penultimate round of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series looms just a couple days away from Dayton, Ohio’s Nutter Center, the world’s best arenacross competitors prepare for the 11th round of bar-banging action before one of the most devoted crowds in the U.S.

The 2010 season has been a true test of resiliency as all 12 rounds of the season are being run consecutively without a single weekend off. While some riders have succumbed to the challenge of such an action-packed season and the intense nature of arenacross competition, one team has stood above the rest, putting together what is likely the most dominating season in the history of the AMA Arenacross Series.

Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki, featuring Tyler Bowers, Josh Demuth and Chad Johnson have put together a remarkable season both as a team and individually. Bowers is the AMA Arenacross class points leader, boasting a series-leading nine victories. Demuth follows him from the runner-up spot in the standings, showcasing five wins of his own. Johnson rounds out the top three in the championship, holding a single win to his credit in 2010. As a team, at least one member of the Babbitt’s team has captured a spot on the podium in every race this season and a Babbitt’s rider has stood atop the podium at all but one race, giving them a winning percentage of 93% with two rounds and three races remaining. It is often said that consistency wins championships and they have proved that better than ever in 2010, effectively solidifying the top three positions in the championship with a 44-point advantage over fourth place.

Luck plays a significant factor throughout the course of an AMA Arenacross Series season where bad luck appears to find every rider in the field at some point. While the Babbitt’s squad has managed to stay relatively unscathed, the 2010 season will come to an unfortunate close for Bowers as an injury suffered in training has sidelined him for the rest of the year. Control of the championship now sits in the hands of Demuth, 19 points behind Bowers. Despite the inopportune injury to him, Bowers has still established an incredible points margin and will finish no worse than third in the championship, further strengthening just how dominant the Babbitt’s team has been this season.

While a bit of a let-down will loom over the final three races of the season thanks to Bowers’ absence, the Babbitt’s AMA Arenacross class team has risen to the occasion each and every week and the success the program has achieved doesn’t stop at the premier class. The Babbitt’s-backed GPF Kawasaki team in the AMA Arenacross Lites class has also set the standard throughout the season. While the challenge presented to the pair of GPF riders A.J. Catanzaro and Daniel Aulsaybrook throughout 2010 has been stronger, two of the youngest riders on the circuit, each of whom are racing the entire season for the first time, have answered the call and each sits in position to claim the respective AMA Arenacross Lites Regional Championships.

The AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional Championship concludes on Saturday night and fresh off his first career victory last weekend, Aulsaybrook sits just four points out of the lead. With the amount of momentum he garnered from his latest outing, it would be hard to doubt his ability and determination to overcome that deficit.

In the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship, Catanzaro has four overall wins to his credit in 2010 and leads the standings by 20 points with just one round and two races to go next weekend from Denver. Over the last few weeks, Catanzaro has been the hottest rider in the series and at just 16 years of age, the rookie is amassing one of the most impressive inaugural seasons ever.

With at least one member from the Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki team guaranteed to win the premier class championship and a great opportunity for each GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki rider to take home the Lites Regional titles, Babbitt’s-backed Kawasaki’s are in prime position to make 2010 a clean sweep of arenacross prestige, a feat that has never been accomplished.

This weekend, the intimate and exciting action of the AMA Arenacross Series will be showcased at the Ervin J. Nutter Center on the campus of Wright State University. Serving as southwest Ohio’s premier sports and entertainment complex, the Nutter Center is home to NCAA Division I Wright State Raiders athletics and the ECHL’s Dayton Bombers hockey team.

Opened in 1990 and named for famous Ohioan Ervin J. Nutter, the main arena of the center seats a maximum of 12,000, but the facility also houses four basketball courts, a recreation running track, a fitness center, classrooms, and 60,000 square feet of exhibit space.

The action commences for the Dayton Arenacross Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Amateur Day concludes an exciting weekend of action on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.

- This race weekend is open to ALL racers and will consist of two SEPARATE race days.
- ONLY specific classes will be offered each day, and results from this weekend’s race will NOT be counted for RP Points.

- ONLY those qualifying for Loretta's will be required to pay the extra $10 LL Fee...if not qualifying, then all fees will remain the same.

- If you trying to qualify for Loretta’s you will pay the first class Racer Fee of $45 (which INCLUDES the gate fee) PLUS the $10 LL Fee for a total of $55. For each additional class, you will pay the $35 racer fee PLUS the $10 LL fee for a total of $45 (for additional classes & each day). Those NOT qualifying will not have to pay the extra $10 LL fee.)

- For those coming in Friday or Saturday, WEEKEND Spectator passes will be sold for $25. However, if you are racing on Saturday ONLY and you leave Saturday night, a $10 refund will be issued on the way out by turning in wristband and spectator tickets making it a $15 spectator fee for the day. We wanted to take a second and update everyone on a few things. First and foremost, keep on praying! The Masterpool family without a doubt feels your prayers and support. Orange County, New York may be famous for it's American Choppers, but there's a new kid in town, the Xtreme Motocross Series. In its first year of operation, the Xtreme Motocross Series has secured 4 exciting tracks with a total of 7 events. The first of these events will be held at Walden Motocross in Wallkill, NY on April 18th.
What's in it for the riders?

Moto Concepts Race Report

Spokane, Wash. (March 15, 2010) – With the conclusion of the lone North of the border race in Toronto, Canada, the 2010 AMA Monster Energy Supercross 250 East series has now reached the halfway point.  With only four rounds remaining, both of the MotoConcepts Racing 250 entrants, Ryan Sipes and Vince Friese, are in the top ten overall. 

The Toronto Supercross marked the fourth straight race that the YZ250F MotoConcepts Yamaha was the first blue bike to cross the finish line.  This past week, that honor went to Ryan Sipes, for the third time this year.  The Kentucky native had a solid day all around, starting with an impressive second overall in qualifying.  After his fourth place finish in heat number one, Sipes continued to stay up front and finished fifth overall in the main.  With half of the East season complete, number 46 is solidly in 6^th overall for the series.

Riding the other YZ250F was Missouri native Vince Friese.  Number 61 was getting it done and after an eighth place finish in heat one, Friese (Free-ZEE) rode hard in the main, just missing a top ten, finishing 11^th.  Friese now sits in tenth overall for the season, but is only two points out of 8^th place.   

In the 450 class Kyle Chisholm continued his successful march into the top ten and has done an outstanding job filling in for the injured Matt Goerke.  The Florida native advanced to the main after finishing a solid fourth place in heat number two.  After twenty laps of 450 racing, number 55 came home in 11^th place.  With ten rounds of 450cc Supercross racing complete, Chisholm sits in 9^th overall.     

“We had another solid day on the track,” stated Team Manager Michael Young.  “Ryan continues to run in the top five and we both expect a podium finish for him this year.  Vince has displayed noticeable improvement from his rookie season and it is great to have him join Sipes and Chisholm in the top ten overall.”

The series now moves to Dallas, TX for round eleven in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

Honda Riders First and Third in Toronto

orrance CA: The Honda Red Riders took on round 10 of the 2010 Supercross series in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, March 13, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard made the trek across the border to battle the Supercross competition aboard their Honda CRF450Rs.

Canard successfully made it three podium finishes in a row in Toronto after grabbing the holeshot and racing to the lead on the opening lap. Challenged up front by Dungey and Villopoto in the early stages of the race, Canard found his rhythm to maintain third place from the sixth lap onward. Teammate Davi Millsaps was in sixth position on the opening lap and began picking off riders, but then he crashed out of the race on lap 15 while chasing his teammate Canard down for the podium spot. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham put in a solid performance after getting a mid-pack start to finish in fifth spot.

“I’m really happy with the way I raced in Toronto,” said Canard. “The past few weeks have been a real whirlwind; all the traveling, testing and getting used to the bigger bike. But I feel really good about the way things have gone and I’m proud of how I’ve raced. Having the opportunity to fill in for Andrew while he’s out injured couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I’ve been racing 250s for a while now, so having the opportunity to step up and not only test but also race the 450 is something I am very grateful for. The CRF450R has the speed and power to be up front and I know with more time on the bike I’d be able to stick with the leaders for longer and be in the hunt for the number one spot.”

In the Supercross Lites East competition, GEICO Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia claimed his first Supercross Lites victory in his debut professional season. The 17-year-old rookie was fastest out of the gate, grabbing the holeshot and building a solid lead out front. Overcoming a close call with a tuff block that had the potential to spoil his lead as well as an off-track excursion late in the race, Barcia held on to lead all 15 laps on his GEICO Powersports Honda CRF250R. Teammate Brett Metcalfe worked hard to make up ground after getting a mid-pack start and he finished in sixth place.

“My day didn’t start out that great in Toronto and I had a few issues to deal with in practice,” said Barcia. “But I talked with my team and got my head in the right place before heading into my heat race. I finished second in the heat and went into the main feeling really confident. I got the holeshot in the main and I knew that the race was mine to lose from there. I knew I had the speed to win—I have all season—I just needed to ride a smart race and keep a level head throughout. Winning my first-ever Supercross race is an awesome feeling. I’m so grateful to my family and the GEICO Powersports Honda team for getting me this far. It’s been a long time coming and I couldn’t have made it without them.”

Double Podium for Suzuki at Toronto SX

Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey continues to lead the AMA/ FIM Supercross Championship after racing to second place in Saturday night’s 10th round at Toronto in Canada, while team-mate Austin Stroupe raced to second in the Lites class, which puts him just seven points away from the top of the series.

In the second Lites heat race, front-runner Stroupe grabbed second at the start with his fuel-injected Suzuki RM-Z250. However, on the first lap, he broke through a berm and dropped to third. By the end of lap one, Stroupe had pushed ahead into second and by lap two he moved up into first and pulled away to a commanding win.

The second Supercross heat race featured Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider and series points leader Dungey, who pulled the holeshot with his Suzuki RM-Z450 and quickly put the hammer down and pulled away from the pack. By the end of the race, Dungey had a dominating 25-second lead at the flag.

Starting with the Lites Main, Stroupe found himself with a top-three start and by the end of lap one had settled into second place. Although he kept eventual winner Justin Barcia close, Stroupe was not able to make a pass and owned second place once again. Toronto marks Stroupe's fourth straight podium finish and saw him close to within seven points of the overall lead.

Stroupe was not happy with second, but was looking at the big picture. “I’m really disappointed that I didn’t get the win, but I rode well and it was nice to close in on the points lead,” he said. “I’m still looking for wins though; not seconds.”

The start of the Supercross Main was tight with Dungey coming out in third position. He had a hard time getting around Trey Canard but after a few laps in third he finally passed him, but the gap to first was over seven seconds and Dungey had his work cut out and at the flag, had closed the gap considerably, but it was not enough and second place was as good as it would get.

Dungey still enjoys a large points lead and is looking forward to the next race in Texas. “I always want to get the win, but we have a great team and will just keep working hard and trying to improve. We are going to be strong in Texas and hope to get back on the top spot by then,” said Dungey.

Ryan Morais - filling in for injured Matt Moss - took a nasty spill in his timed practice session. After much discussion, it was recommended that he sit out the evening program as he was too sore to be effective.

Magoo Van Fund Exceeds Goals

March, 12, 2010 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – On Friday, March 5th, Brad and Lori Lackey received an e-mail from recently inducted AMA Hall Of Famer Geoff Fox saying that he, along with his brother Bob, would fund the remaining $15,000 needed for a very special project. to reach $100,000 challenge to the industry Last November, Bob “Hurricane” Hannah issued a $100,000 challenge to the industry to fund a special needs van for injured motocross legend Danny “Magoo” Chandler. But even before the news that the donation from the Fox clan had pushed the project to its goal had sunk in, David Bailey and Russ Koza from RIDERS F1RST and ONE Industries added an additional $10,000 for a grand total of $110,000.

“Wow is all I can say right now,” said Brad Lackey, America’s First Motocross World Champion, and van fund project leader Brad Lackey. “They way people have responded to this challenge and all the other donations we received makes me very proud to be part of the motorcycle industry.”
The challenge was started by 7-Time National Motocross and Supercross Champion Bob Hannah at the 2009 Monsters of Motocross presented by Lucas Oil event last Halloween as he made the first $5,000 donation. A growing list of industry people meeting Hannah’s challenge was promoted each week in a series of advertisements donated by Cycle News. Each week, new names were added, including pioneers and new champions of the motocross market and other generous fans of Magoo.
“It’s awesome that so many fine folks and companies found a way to help make this happen for our friend Magoo,” said Hannah. “I look forward to seeing Danny at the races in his new rig. Maybe he’ll take me for a hot lap,” Hannah joked. “The van turned out great!” adds Lackey. “It is so cool, I think I need one of these rigs for myself.”
These funds will now be used to purchase and outfit a new special needs Sprinter van for Danny Magoo Chandler winner of all four motos of the 1982 Motocross and Trophee des Nations. The van will be outfitted with the newest living equipment and gear to allow Danny to be on the road teaching his riding and safety clinics around the country. The goal is to have the vehicle ready by the Hangtown Motocross National in late May.
Although Hannah’s challenge has been met, there is still funds needed to help pay for insurance, maintenance and other costs related to the vehicle. Also, ongoing signage and branding opportunities on the van will be available for interested companies who would like to associate their brand with Danny Magoo Chandler and his safety clinics.
